Overview

Kat's Catch Fish & Chips at 156 Rosebank Ave, Clayton South, stands out as a refreshing nod to classic Southern European-style fish and chips. The moment you step inside, the warmth of the staff sets the tone for a genuine local experience. It’s clear this is more than just a quick bite—it’s comfort food crafted with care and generosity.

The menu showcases several highlights, but the Fish Bites and Chips and the Souvlaki Mix with Pineapple Fritter are particularly memorable. The fish here is fresh, tender, and encased in a thin, crispy batter that strikes the perfect balance between crunch and juiciness. Customers often note that the portions are hearty, reflecting great value and an old-school generosity that’s becoming rare. The pineapple fritter adds a unique, sweet twist, dusted lightly with cinnamon sugar, pairing surprisingly well with savory items and broadening the flavor profile traditionally expected from fish and chip shops.

The shop itself is meticulously clean, reinforcing confidence in the quality and freshness of the food. Service is consistently praised for its friendliness and attentiveness, with the owner and staff often going above and beyond—whether it’s offering extra tartare sauce or complimentary potato cakes. This personal touch creates an inviting atmosphere suited for families, local workers, and anyone seeking a reliable and satisfying meal.

Kat’s Catch strikes a thoughtful balance between traditional and innovative. Its approach to seasoning, such as a subtly sweet, BBQ-esque chicken salt on their thick-cut chips, enhances rather than overpowers. Drinks selections include options like sugar-free Kirk’s sodas, complementing the meal without added guilt.

While the food’s inherently rich nature means it can get greasy if overindulged, this is more about the cuisine than the kitchen. Overall, Kat’s Catch Fish & Chips delivers a generous, tasty, and heartfelt take on a beloved Australian classic—making it a standout fish and chip joint for Clayton South and beyond.

A good Southern European owned fish & chips place similar to Pete’s Seafood that used to exist at Springvale Plaza. The staff and owner are really nice and the portions are more than generous for the price. Place is really clean too. Just wish the flake was fried a bit longer so it’d be more crispy. But 10/10 would recommend

Super good local shop for fish and chips, the portions are massive and the food was ready surprisingly fast. We ordered the duo pack, pineapple fritter and mars bar fritter (never seen that before!). The chicken salt on the chips is vaguely sweet and almost BBQ-esque, not the usual neon yellow chicken salt, and the fritters were dusted in cinnamon sugar. Batter was the stand-out as it's really thin and crispy! Overall delicious but definitely eat in moderation bc it gets oily very fast (not any fault to the store, just inherent to the food) 5/5

Great fish and chips! They have a decent range of different fish here, I think I had the snapper and barramundi and the pieces of fish were quite large and very filling (especially since I bought them in a pack with calamari and chips!) The service was also really great, I completely forgot to get some tartare sauce for the fish and when I went to buy a few after my food was ready the female worker (Kat maybe?) gave me a few of the squeeze on packs for free. They also have a decent selection of drinks including sugar free Kirk’s drinks. Will be coming back

Staff here were so lovely and welcoming, and their fish & chips are SO good! Perfectly crunchy, fish was tender and juicy, plus the chips were actually good in their own right and not just soggy bits of potato. The store is super clean, and Kat's Catch are also super generous with their portions! Honestly, it feels like the fish & chip joints of old when I was a kid. :) Will be my go-to fish & chip place going forward.

Hands down the best fish and chips in Melbourne! Kats Catch isn’t just good — it’s next level. The fish is cooked to absolute perfection — golden, crisp batter on the outside with tender, melt-in-your-mouth fish inside. You can tell it’s made fresh every time. The chips are just as amazing — perfectly seasoned, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Every order tastes like it’s made with real care, and the quality never drops no matter how busy they get. The staff are super friendly, the service is quick, and the portions are generous. If you’re in Melbourne and you love fish and chips, this is the place. Kats Catch sets the standard — nothing else even comes close!

We got the duo Kat’s pack for $30.8 and it’s amazing. The whole place was really nice, all the staff were friendly. When we first saw it, we were amazed by how big the portion they gave was. The flake fish was really good and massive, nice crispy batter, well cooked tasty fish. The chips were fried really well, very crispy and seasoned too. I enjoyed the potato cakes quite a bit as well. We also swapped one of our dimsim for a calamari which was really good too. It came with 2 drinks, and they let us get either 2 cans or a large bottle, which was really generous of them. Overall this is a really good fish n chips spot and If highly recommend trying it.
